The problem of continuous development of the urban environment brings to mind the historical process of building development and the phased formation of the city image. The tasks dictated by ethical and legal restrictions when working in the historical environment are increasingly in conflict with traditional architectural creativity. This study examines walkability in Amman’s residential areas, focusing on pedestrian safety and satisfaction. Three neighborhoods underwent surveys and focus group discussions. Statistical methods were used for data evaluation, while on-site assessments and photographic documentation complemented quantitative data. The relationship between toy design and architecture is examined. Both phenomena play the role of a link between the past and the future. The authors have conducted a study of a large array of toy images offered in today’s market. It is shown that toy design is dominated by kitsch. The signs and content of kitsch are measured by hardware methods with the help of special computer programmes. Kitsch, which toy manufacturers inculcate in the next generation, is a serious threat to the development of cities as places of communication.
Portals representing iconic elements of the three-dimensional composition of the medieval churches have particularly expressive forms in the architecture of Ani. The article reveals the features of the portals of two types, successively developed by the architect Trdat for the majestic cathedrals of the Armenian capital of the late 10th – early 11th centuries. Drawing ideas from the samples of different traditions, including the ancient Greco-Roman one, new types were created, such as a perspective portal and a local medieval version of the Hellenistic portal.

Caricatures of Nizhny Novgorod architect Alexander Khudin are considered from the point of view of art history analysis. It is shown that the style of the caricatures gravitates towards minimalism.
