Abstract

The article tells the story of construction of the fortress and the city of Alexanropol, and of reconstruction of the Black Fort. It features the uniqueness of the conditions of existence and reconstruction with the elements of restoration of the Russian military base, the civil city and the traditions of private-municipal partnership. The notion of vernacular city is used. It is pointed out that the new multifunctional complex, which appeared on the site of the military facilities, is of importance for formation of a cultural center on an interregional-scale.
