Аннотация

В статье рассматривается проблема применимости самого массового модернистского конструктивного принципа каркасного жилого дома в связи с народной и вернакулярной архитектурой в условиях сухих субтропиков. Стремление к радикальному удешевлению строительного производства и примеры из автомобиле- и судостроения вдохновляли архитекторов первой половины – середины XX века к освоению типа дома с несущим стальным или железобетонным каркасом и плоской кровлей, парадоксально напоминавшего уходящие вглубь тысячелетий местные типы непрофессиональной архитектуры.
