Essential part of the mentality of the people Authors Alexander Gimelshteyn Irkutsk State University Yuliya Sitnikova Irkutsk State University Downloads PDF (Русский) DOI: https://doi.org/10.51461/issn.2309-3072/85.2642 Keywords: historical memory, toponymy, renovation, identity Abstract Historical memory has been formed since the arrival of Russians in Siberia, because written memory appeared only from that period. Almost everything related to the ancient history of the region is not supported by sources. There is a historical memory of more ancient periods due to the fact that a sufficient number of ancient peoples live on the territory of the Irkutsk region. One of the most important problems is that historical toponyms should be recognized as an object of cultural heritage. This is a huge and most important topic, which implies an audit of the state of affairs and to a large extent toponymic restoration in historic cities and towns of the Irkutsk region How to Cite Gimelshteyn, A., & Sitnikova, Y.
