Ourcollection of articles contains avariety of approaches and interpretationsof the concept of the environment, views on its necessary qualities and processes of its development and transformation. The materials intersect historical approaches based on medieval traditional attitudes to water in the countries of the Arab ‘arid belt’ and the influence of the latest media art technologies, issues of courtyard safety in Bahrain and Kazakhstan, environmental memorialsof Astana and marginal environments of the Russian Far East. The range of objects is from Sevastopol to Chinese Dalian, and thetime spread is from the era of the ‘righteous caliphs’ to the present day.
