Abstract

The article considers the phenomenon of the urban European garden and reveals its symbolic and socio-normative content,
the interrelation of the social system, and the models of human interaction with the world and society in urban discourse. The author analyzes E. Howard’s socio-utopian concept of the garden city as a social movement, urban planning practice and a method of social reform. Based on the materials about the principles of creation, the history of development and the current situation of the Nizhny Novgorod garden city Krasny Prosveshchenets, the article reveals its research, social and cultural potential for the development of the city.
