Abstract

The article examines the relationship and difference between two garden typologies, generally understood as spaces for mass recreation and entertainment, an alternative to everyday life in the metropolis. The first typology focuses on the sensual, tactile perception of natural forms, often of natural origin, associated with the Garden of Eden, as illustrated by Baroque artists. The second is defined by a predetermined scenario of an invented ritual (performance) and is therefore constructed based on socially accepted norms. The article proposes a concept of a New Eden – a post-industrial type garden that actualizes the personal meditative interaction of the subject with the garden’s design scenario.
