Abstract

In a series of notes, the author discourses upon the relationship between architecture, nature, landscape, scenery and the artificial environment of cities. Architecture is thought of as an extension of the landscape. In cities, nature loses its natural qualities, and, in
the form of parks and lawns, it falls into the category of organized amenities. The artificial environment of cities, which claims to be
a second nature, is so far only a clumsy imitation of the natural environment. However, a human being does not feel comfortable
even in a man-made artificial environment.
