The article “Barracks Discourse” continues the series of publications about military towns in Siberia and the Far East. In Irkutsk, the issue of the Cadet School, which was unjustly excluded from the military camp ensemble, has been a hot topic for four years now. A special subject of concern are the names and projects that we remember and should not forget. The scandalous topic of demolishing the CMEA building, a symbol of the socialist commonwealth, the circus on Vernadsky Avenue and several other outstanding objects of Soviet modernism has stirred up not only the professional community, but also the blogosphere. The Bratskaya HPP (G. M. Orlov), the Palace of Sports Trud (V. P. Shmatkov), residential and public buildings in Irkutsk and Baikalsk (V. A. Pavlov) – why are these objects still not included in the cultural heritage register? The past remains alive and interesting.
