In the Vitruvian triad “utility – strength – beauty,” the aesthetic properties of architecture were in last place. But over time, the “Right to Beauty” — one of the fundamental rights of Man — is increasingly coming into the focus of various architects. The human environment should be beautiful to the same extent that we strive to make it healthy and safe.

We dedicate the first issue to the relationship between Architecture and the Arts. There are no boundaries between these fields. Architecture is frozen (mute) music; there is much that can be said about architecture in materials on book graphics and illustrations, costume design, monuments, sculpture and sculptors, and so on. We invite everyone who has something to say about the intersections of architecture with other areas that create Beauty around and within us.

The era of profound upheavals and changes in which we find ourselves living once again raises questions about cultural codes — the basis of identity and self‑determination. These questions are discussed at various levels, including the state level, but so far even their precise formulations remain elusive. What is a cultural code? In what forms does it exist and develop? How does the architectural code participate in shaping a country’s cultural sovereignty? Are the characteristics of the landscape and history of regions taken into account when creating architectural works, and how is this reflected in regional practices?

In previous issues of the journal, we have repeatedly addressed the topics of identity, local cultures, the relationship between the centre and the periphery, and other topics closely related to the theme of cultural codes. Time forces us to return to this topic again, which is as inexhaustible as culture itself. This topic is becoming increasingly acute and vital. We are convinced that decoding and preserving the cultural code is not just a matter of development, but of the survival of cities, regions, states, and civilizations.

While the main topic of the issue takes priority, submissions are also accepted for the regular sections — URBAN, HERITAGE, EDUCATION, etc.
