It is argued that the idea of the future is a product of exclusively linear historical and temporal thinking. It was this kind of thinking that made Modern Times possible; it was unknown to previous eras. The future is a very dubious concept. In order to be accepted and assimilated, it requires rather serious reductions of temporal imagination, namely, building them in a line of incremental progress.
