Abstract

Within the framework of the concept of chronotope (spatial and temporal unity), it is shown how the time and place of the city’s foundation determine its fate. Tyumen is the oldest city in the south of the Tyumen region, which is developing dynamically. Today, the territory of the city’s founding site has lost its attractiveness, becoming a transit zone. A number of historical and modern objects, symbols of public consciousness, are not semantically related. The emotional connection between residents and the place has been lost. The article studies the dynamics of the transformation of the city’s founding site, reflecting the evolution of socio-economic and cultural structures. On the basis of historical data, the author proposes a logical structure of the modern content of this place as an integral cultural landscape. The author also considers the stages of changing the semantic content of the founding site of Tyumen, which allows for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of urbanization and the identity of the city.
